Obituary for Raymond D. Pape

Raymond D. Pape, 81, of Windsor Locks, entered into Eternal Peace on Friday, April 30, 2021. Ray was born in Hartford on June 2, 1939, the loving son of the late Daniel and Adele (Wallace) Pape. He enjoyed a career of 44 years with the United States Post Office as a carrier in Hartford. Ray was also the owner of Craftec Hobbies in East Windsor, proudly operating his business for 50 years. He also collected and built models and was a member of Craftec Model Club. Ray was a longtime photographer who served as the former president of the Pine Meadow Photography Club. He was an avid reader and enjoyed playing the Stock Market. He was also a member of the Connecticut Air National Guards. One of his greatest joys was spending time with his children and grandchildren. Some of the highlights are visiting the CT Air museum, reading the Grinch, discussing history, and celebrating events and accomplishments with them. Ray is survived by the “the love of his life”, best friend, and business associate of 40 years, Elizabeth (Betty) McCuin of Enfield. With Betty, Ray loved traveling throughout New England on photography trips. They also enjoyed trips abroad, attending scale model conventions, and their annual trip to Hollywood, Fl. Ray loved spending time at Craftec visiting with his many friends. Ray is also survived by his five children: Linda Schlask of Enfield, Christopher Pape and his wife, Denise, of Somers, Susan Scott Caron and her fiancé, Alejandro Colon, of Windsor Locks, Carlene Davis of Enfield, and Daniel Pape and his wife, Alison, of Hebron; a brother Ronald Pape; and his beloved grandchildren, Megan and Nicole Schlask, Rebecca DeMontigny and her husband, Nick, Devin and Dylan Scott, Carissa Pape and her fiancé, Kevin Panos, Cameron Pape, Mason and Savannah Davis, and Liam, Travis and Camille Pape. He is also survived by Betty’s children to whom he was an honorary father, James Scott McCuin and his children, Maddy and Owen; Heather Wasileski and her husband, Steve, and their children, Peyton and Parker. He is also survived by his former wife and mother of his children, Nan Pape. Ray was so looking forward to the birth of his first great grandchild in June, who is to be named Raelynn in his honor. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Diane Pape; a granddaughter, angel baby, Quinn Elizabeth Pape; and a daughter -in-law, Suellen McCuin. Relatives and friends are invited to join the family for calling hours on Friday, May 14, 2021 from 4:00 - 7:00 pm at Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Rd., Enfield CT 06082. A memorial service will follow at 7:00 pm. Burial will be held privately at the convenience of the family.
