Obituary for Richard Peter Ciarlo

Richard P. Ciarlo, 90, of Woodbury, beloved husband to Nancy (Chipman) Ciarlo, entered into Eternal Peace in the comfort of his own home on Monday, May 11, 2020, surrounded by his loving family. He was the son to the late Anthony L. and Ida (Mannello) Ciarlo. Richard proudly served our country as a Staff Sergeant in the United States Army during the Korean War. Following his time in the service he owned and operated Ciarlo's Mobile alongside his brother, Tony. He retired from Carriage Limousine as a driver. Richard was a proud family man and a wonderful father who enjoyed participating in his children's activities through coaching baseball and softball. He was an original member of the Nava Ski Club in Waterbury and an avid sports fan, especially of the Red Sox, NY Mets, and UCONN basketball. Richard and his wife enjoyed many trips with the family together where they created some of their fondest memories. He enjoyed every moment he spent with his grandchildren, especially watching their sporting events and his weekly breakfast dates with his granddaughter at the Woodbury Diner. In addition to his loving wife of 63 years, Nancy, Richard is survived by his four children, Andrea Rheault and her husband, Scott of Leominster, MA, James Ciarlo of Glenburnie, MD, Annette Caselli and her husband, Joseph, of Woodbury, and Suzanne Hanks and her husband, Mark, of Middlebury; his six grandchildren, Abigail Caselli and her significant other, Rodney Boykin, Nicholas Rheault, Andrew Hanks, Alexandra Caselli, Shannon Hanks, and Daniel Hanks; a sister-in-law, Lila Ciarlo; and several nieces and nephews. Richard was predeceased by his brother, Anthony Ciarlo; his cousins that were like siblings, Donald and Daniel Vitale and Mary Perugini and two sisters-in-law, Joan Chipman Garrett and Marjorie Chipman Mangini. A Mass in memory of Richard's life will be held at 10 am on Monday, July 20, 2020 at St. Teresa of Avila Church, 146 Main St. S., Woodbury, CT 06798. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Waterbury, CT. Richard's care has been entrusted to his granddaughter, Alexandra. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105.
