Obituary for Robert W. "Bob" Burns

Robert “Bob” Burns, Sr. passed away peacefully on March 9th after a long and courageous battle with his family by his side throughout the final days of his illness. Born in 1941 to Harold and Marion Burns (Poole). Bob was a lifelong resident of Enfield and was very proud of his hometown and heritage. Bob was an extremely loving and caring individual always putting his family and friends first. Whether it was spending countless hours in the backyard pitching baseballs to his sons, or constructing homemade ice rinks to skate on, Bob always took the time for his children. Bob spent many years coaching in several of the Enfield baseball and hockey youth leagues when his children were young. As his children grew older, Bob attended each game, always the supportive, proud father. Whether the game was local or several states away, Bob never missed a pitch or pass.

After spending time in the Army serving his country, Bob was employed as a shipping supervisor at Bradley airport for many years. A proud work memory he shared was having his company ship the Stanley cup trophy that is awarded annually to the champion NHL team. In retirement, Bob loved to travel with his wife, spending many vacations exploring the beaches of the Caribbean, Mexico, Florida, and Myrtle Beach. Always planning the next trip as soon as returning from the last adventure. Bob was an avid reader and enjoyed reading to his grandchildren. Bob loved to spend time with friends. He enjoyed playing cards with his friends at the German club in East Windsor, until his illness no longer allowed. Bob was a member of the Broad Brook angling club. He cherished spending precious moments streamside with his children and grandchildren.

Bob is survived by his loving wife for over 50 years, Eileen Burns, and his two sons Rob and his wife Dawn of Broad Brook, and Patrick and his wife Erin of Somers. Bob is also survived by 3 loving grandchildren Patrick, Evelyn, and Emily. His grandchildren were his inspiration and always put a magic twinkle in his eyes. Bob was predeceased by his parents and his brother John Burns.
