Obituary for Thomas J. Loftus Jr.

Thomas J. Loftus, Jr., 85, of Enfield, passed away on Thursday, December 26, 2019 at home. Born in Hartford, CT on November 20, 1934, he was the son of the late Thomas J. Loftus, Sr. and Helen (Groves) Loftus. Thom grew up in Broad Brook before raising his family in South Windsor, and eventually settling in Enfield for the past 30 years. He was a proud member of Alcoholics Anonymous with 41 years of sobriety and was a sponsor for a number of fellow members. An avid traveler and auto enthusiast, he enjoyed traveling the country and attending car shows with his 1972 Pontiac LeMans coup convertible and his El Camino. His favorite pastime by far though was spending quality time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He leaves two loving children, Thomas J. Loftus, III of South Windsor, and Deneen Janty and her husband Stephen of Niantic; two granddaughters, Kristen Nielsen and Megan Nielsen; two great-grandchildren, Ellena Carrano and Lennox Carpenter; and his longtime companion Diane Hoctor. He was predeceased by his brother, Richard G. Loftus. His family will receive friends on Saturday, January 4, from 10 AM – 12 PM at Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Rd., Enfield, with a brief Memorial Service at 12 PM. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers memorial donations in Thom’s memory can be made to the American Cancer Society or a charity of the donor’s choice. For online condolences, please visit www.leetestevens.com.
