Obituary for William "Bill" V. Thomson Sr.

William V. "Bill" Thomson Sr., 92, of Enfield, the devoted and loving husband of Florence (Blanchard) Thomson for 67 years, passed away peacefully, Monday, September 5, 2022 at Suffield by the River. The son of the late George and Edith (Vaughan) Thomson, Bill was born in the Thompsonville section of Enfield, and was a lifelong resident of the Enfield community. He served his country honorably in the U.S. Army in the 2nd Armored Division (Hell on Wheels) during the Korean War. Bill was employed for 38 years with the New England Telephone and Telegraph Company before retiring in 1991. Bill loved traveling, and during his retirement he and his wife continued to travel, visiting most of the United States and many foreign countries. He also volunteered his time helping others in the community. He was a longtime member of the Enfield Congregational Church where he celebrated his faith and his friendships within the church community.

Besides his wife, Bill is survived by his children and their families: William V. Thomson Jr., and his wife Kathleen of Enfield and their children, Megan Dean and her husband Cameron Dean and their daughter Morwenna Dean of Anchorage, Alaska, and Patrick Thomson of Enfield; and John A. Thomson and his wife Susan of Windsor and their children Rebecca Thomson of Hartford, Jessica Thomson of Middletown, and Kelly Thomson of Vernon. Sadly, Bill’s son David passed away in 1971. He also leaves a sister-in-law Betty Thomson and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Bill was predeceased by his brother George.

Bill was a loving, devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, son, brother, and uncle. He loved his family above all else. His love, influence, invaluable life lessons, and camaraderie will be perpetually an inspiration. His life can best be summed up as follows: “A man can make a difference. He can set an example that others want to follow in the way he leads, the way he loves, the way he lives. The encouraging words he speaks can turn doubt and worry into confidence and courage. And he can change a life just by being part of it."

A Funeral Service celebrating Bill's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 24, 2022 at the Enfield Congregational Church, 1295 Enfield St., Enfield. Burial will be Private. In lieu of Flowers, donations in Bill's memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Assn., 225 N. Michigan Ave., Fl. 17, Chicago, IL 60601, or to the Friends of the Enfield Senior Center, 299 Elm Street, Enfield, CT 06082. To leave online condolences, please visit www.Leetestevens.com
