Obituary for William Wallace McWha

William W. "Bill" McWha, 95, of East Granby, entered into Eternal Peace on Monday, December 7, 2020. He was born in Lynn, MA, on February 9, 1925, the loving son of the late Joseph and Elizabeth (Stanchfield) McWha. Bill proudly served our country in the United States Army during World War II. He was a graduate of Salem Teacher's College in Salem, NH, earning a Bachelor's degree in education. He furthered his studies at Boston University where he earned his Master's degree in teaching.  Bill retired in 1988 from the Commerce High School in Springfield, MA, after a long career of over 30 years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus , and active in both the St. Bernard and Holy Family CCD programs. Bill served as chairman on the Enfield Board of Education from 1969-1979. William spent 4  summers along his wife of almost 70 years, the late Mildred (Kearney) McWha, at the YMCA Camp Lawrence in New Hampshire where they worked in the Camp Store, as well as a camp bookkeeper.

Bill is survived by his four children, William W. McWha, Jr. and his wife, Irene, of Enfield, Susan McWha of Easthampton, MA, Paul McWha and his wife, Linda of East Hartland, and Ellen Glynn and her husband, Steven, of East Granby; seven grandchildren, Jodi Ferreira-Rabidou and her husband, Kip, Nathan and Michael Ferreira, Shelley McWha, Steven Glynn and his wife, Marlene, Brian Glynn, and April Franz and her husband, Markus; and seven great grandchildren, Wyatt and Gemma Franz, Samantha McWha, Chase and Carter Ferreira, Haley and Jack Glynn.Visitation hours will be held from 4-6 p.m. Monday, Dec. 14, 2020 at Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Rd., Enfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tues. Dec. 15, 2020 at Holy Family Church of St. Jeanne Jugan Parish, 23 Simon Rd., Enfield. Burial with military honors is private. Social distancing and face masks are required for all visitors at the funeral home and church.
