Obituary for Margaret Davis (Slanetz)

Margaret Davis (Slanetz)
Margaret S. Davis of Enfield, daughter of the late Mildred (Millay) and Walter G. Slanetz of Enfield passed away unexpectedly at her home in Enfield Sunday, February 21, 2010, six days after her 80th birthday. She was born in Springfield, Mass. and spent her early years living in the Hazardville section of Enfield and Islip, NY. Margaret graduated from Enfield High School in 1947. She attended the University of Connecticut in Storrs for a year, after which she enrolled in Eastman School of Dental Hygiene in Rochester, NY, where she obtained her certification in 1951. She worked as a hygienist for several dentists in Springfield, MA, for over 35 years. In 1952, Margaret married the late Merritt T. “Bud” Davis of Somers, who passed away in 1985.
Margaret was known by friends and family as opinionated and fiercely independent, but beneath a crusty exterior, she had a heart of gold and cared deeply for her family and the many cats who kept her company over the years. Margaret was a three time cancer survivor, this being a testament to her inner strength and tenacity. Although macular degeneration progressively robbed her of her eyesight over the last twenty years of her life, she maintained a sharp mind and keen interest in current events until the day she died.
Margaret is survived by three children, Mark K. Davis (Mona) of Humble, TX, Diane Clark (Wayne) of North Charleston, SC, and Robert who lived with her in Enfield. In addition, she is survived by her brother Arthur Slanetz of Clearwater, FL and five grandchildren, Justin Quinn of Sarasota, FL, Chelsea Quinn of North Charleston, SC, Michael and William Davis of Humble, TX and Matthew Davis of Corsicana, TX.
She also leaves 15 nieces and nephews, Susan Comparetto, Karen LaPlante, Don Slanetz, and Betty Slanetz of Enfield, Hank Huber of Everett, WA, Jan Taylor of Kennewick, WA, Kimberly and Scott Davis of New Port Richey, FL, Mark A. Davis of Bedford, TX, Galen Davis of Seattle, WA, Anne Thurman of Spokane Valley, WA, Sherry Pegg of Mira Loma, CA, Kathy Miller of Ontario, CA, Karen Mackie of Hemet, CA, and Kimberly Korn of Round Rock, TX.
The family will receive visitors at the home of Don and Betty Slanetz, 170 North Maple St., Enfield, CT on Thursday, Feb. 25, from 4:00 to 7:00 pm. Interment will take place following a private service Saturday morning at the Davis family plot in the Somers North Cemetery. Pastor David Williams of the Hazardville United Methodist Church will officiate. In lieu of flowers, donations for the benefit of the family may be to the Davis Family Organization, 41 North St., Enfield, CT 06082.
