Paul L. Tarko, 85, of Windsor Locks, beloved husband of Margit for 52 years, passed away peacefully Saturday, December 15, 2007 at Hartford Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer and heart disease. Born in Apatfalva, Hungary on June 14, 1922, to the late Lajos and Hermina (Vereb) Tarko, he emigrated to the U.S. following the Hungarian revolution in 1956 and lived in Connecticut since 1959 where he founded and operated his own business since 1968. Paul received a chemical engineering degree from Technical University of Budapest, Hungary. Paul was also a survivor of the Russian Gulag following WWII and authored an autobiography of his life experiences. In addition to his wife, Margit (Alexa) Tarko, Paul is survived by his sons, Laszlo Tarko of Windsor Locks, Paul Tarko, Jr. and his wife Emese of Windsor Locks and a daughter, Eva Kovaco and her husband, Nick of Enfield, CT. Paul is also survived by five grandchildren, Jamie, Melanie and Sara Kovaco, and Ryan and Emily Tarko, his brother-in-law, Bela Alexa and his family of Cleveland, OH and a cousin Maria Krivan and her husband, Kalman of Hungary. Paul is also survived by many close friends and was always there to help others. A procession will form at 10:00 a.m. at the Windsor Locks Funeral Home 441 Spring Street, on Thursday, December 20, 2007 to St. Robert Bellarmine Church, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Private burial will be held in Grove Cemetery at a later date. Relatives and friends may call on Paul's family Wednesday evening, December 19th from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Windsor Locks Funeral Home.
