Obituary for Richard C. "Mr. J" Johnson, Jr.

Richard C. “Dick” , “Mr. J” Johnson, Jr., 77, of Windsor Locks, CT passed away on Sunday, July 12, 2015, at St. Francis Hospital. Dick was born December 21, 1937, in Hartford, CT the son of the late Richard Sr. and Mary (Babcock) Johnson Dollack. Dick was raised in Windsor and graduated from Windsor High School and after graduating he listed in the United States Army. Dick worked for several years for the Radiator Shop in Windsor Locks and retired from Smyth Bus Co. in East Windsor as a school bus driver for over 25 years. “Mr. J” as he was affectionately known to the many kids that drove on his bus will be remembered for his larger than life smile and a friendly wave. Dick was a NASCAR enthusiast and he loved working on cars. He was the crew chief on his buddy’s drag car. Dick was also a fan of UCONN Women’s Basketball. He is survived by his longtime girlfriend, Sheila Rossi; six sisters, Mary Saunders, Margo Johnson, Bernice Ormond, Shirley Johnson, Connie Dollack, Suzanne Howard; two brothers, Philip and Roger Johnson ; three children, Lisa Johnson, Richard Allen and Timothy Braswell; four grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. Dick was predeceased by two sisters, Carole Martin Hill and Barbara Hicks and a brother, Robert Johnson. Relatives and friends are welcome to join the family on Thursday, July 23, 2015from 4 pm to 7 pm at the Windsor Locks Funeral Home, 441 Spring St., Windsor Locks. A funeral service in celebration of Dick’s life will be held at 7 pm. Burial will be held privately. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Kidney Foundation of CT, 1463 Highland Avenue, Cheshire, CT 06410-1216
